Today’s business start-up idea is a Video Copy and Production Studio. Just stop and think about it, several people have precious home videos on old VHS or beta tapes. You can offer these people a very satisfying service of protecting there memories for many years to come. Other streams of income could be video editing, dvd & cd duplication, video to DVD with menus, and photo to video keepsakes.
Capital Requirements:
Capital required by you to get this business off the ground will run between $ 20,000 and $70,000. This includes computers, software, tape drives, scanners, cameras, video switching equipment along with a host of other stuff.
Potential Income:
The potential for income with this business breaks down to how talented you are with video editing and how savvy your marketing skills are. I found most smaller businesses were reporting $60,000 – $85,000 in annual sales.
This is a business where you need a large pool of people to draw on. I would want at least 40,000 people in my immediate marketing area before attempting this idea.
Assistance:
There are franchises available and some have done quite well. Two that I found with a quick search of google were Video Masters and Home Video Studio.
Recommendations:
Shawn: While I think there is a real potential here for profits, most people are not going to have the natural video editing talent or have the patience to learn it. If you do have the talent to edit video and create masterful works of arts with photo video keepsakes, then pursuing this idea could be worthwhile. With that said, for most of us this business could result in failure.
Will: There is definitely a niche in the market for this business. It is relatively easy to get started and something you can run at your own pace. A person could make a little or as much money as they wanted, depending on the time they are willing to invest. In this particular business, knowledge equals time saved and money in your pocket, so learn as much as possible! Advertising would be fairly cheap also. You could get great responses from free ads on craigslist. You might get more business than you can handle! Good luck

Wow! You guys really do your homework and make it easy to really see if a business would be good for me! Thanks for sharing your research and ideas!
