Lawn Care

We are here to bring down-to-earth ideas to average folks. Here is an idea that fits the bill. Start your own lawn care business.

  • If someone is willing to work outside, this job is always a winner
  • Even in a bad economy, everyone needs their lawns cared for.
  • More people hire it done than ever because they have no time, no equipment, easier for them to get someone else to do it.
  • More single women than ever and they may prefer to hire it done
  • Can be done in a big or small basis.

Start up cost

If you already have a truck, you will probably want to also get; a trailer, good lawn mower, weed eater, blower, and misc items. Get trusted machinery that work well. If an item is in the shop getting fixed, you are losing money. You could start with as little as a few hundred dollars or up to 20,000. It depends on how big you want to go.

How much money will you make?

I did this as a side job and made more per hour than I did in my regular job.

It’s hard to put an exact amount on how much a person will make. It depends on how hard you want to work at it. The lowest I saw on the internet was about 30-35 an hour. Try to get the going rate in your area and location. If a person spent just 15 hours a week doing this at $35 an hour, they should gross no less than $525 a week. Someone who is in this full time should make considerable more

Things to consider

  • Spend a few bucks and wear a uniform of some sort. If you have employees, wear the same colors. It gives you the look a professional.
  • Also, go with the same color scheme on everything you own and put your name and number on your vehicles.
  • Work a website on the internet and get on the local yahoo search engine for lawn care
  • Call the local lawn care companies and price their services. It will give you an idea of what to charge.
  • There is TONS of information on the internet about this. Just Google it and prepare to read.

Negatives:

  • Have to deal with the weather
  • Hard work
  • Could be seasonal
  • May be competing against minimum wage workers, but this could also be a positive. It could be a way to get cheap labor for your business.

Positives

  • With the right contracts, you could have a big business
  • Good money
  • Your own boss
  • Profit depends completely on you

Summary

This business deserves a serious look by anyone who needs part time money or someone who desires to get into it full time. This meets all my criteria for a good business!

  • Flexible can go big or small and work as part time job.
  • Times are hard and this is something anyone can do to make ends meet.
  • Relatively low risk. Dave Ramsey recommends this to people as a great way to make extra money.
  • The lawn care market is not getting smaller and will only grow.
  • Make sure it’s the kind of work you like doing. Outside work isn’t for everyone.
